CASSINA + VIRGIL ABLOH MODULAR IMAGINATION

Contemporary landscapes

Virgil Abloh, a visionary of contemporary culture with a master's degree in Architecture, worked side by side with Cassina to envision this unique project that both questions and develops the design implications of modularity. Rooted within the elementary creative process of play , Modular Imagination is an open invitation to participate in configuring space and building new worlds .  Modular blocks

Modular Imagination is composed of two different-sized, matt-black building blocks that can be combined to create, adapt and rebuild space based on the necessities of both public and domestic settings.

Each textured block has a rigid almost industrial appearance but is surprisingly soft, creating the perfect balance for it to be used both as a seat and supporting surface. A pouf, a bench, a table, articulated compositions can be created by stacking two pieces at a time thanks to a specific connecting module that allows its contrasting orange cylindrical feet to slot into the top of the below unit.

In complete respect of Virgil Abloh's work, Modular Imagination enters the Cassina catalogue, emphasizing the value of this project that does not aim to be a limited drop but attests the quality of his work within the design world. Virgil Abloh was in fact particularly proud of this project that began development in 2020 and was completed before his premature passing From architecture and design to music and culture

Sharing similar values that brought forth influential icons such as Le Corbusier's Tabouret stools, Modular Imagination represents how we can best live a modern home in a versatile world. Reference to Virgil Abloh graphic design practice is also particularly evident in this unique design on account of the distinctive 'Cassina-Abloh' round logos in bas-relief on each surface.  Separate and recycle

Thanks to the work carried out by Cassina LAB, the components of Modular Imagination can be easily separated at the end of the product's life cycle . A dashed line, situated under its feet, indicates where the soft polyurethane upholstery, with a percentage of polyols deriving from biological sources, can be cut away from its recycled wooden core to facilitate the recovery and recycling of its elements at the end of the life cycle of the product.
